Abducted Venerable Edwin Achi, the Anglican priest kidnapped alongside his wife, Sarah Achi, a Customs officer, from their home in the Nissi community of Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State, has reportedly died in captivity.

His death in captivity was confirmed on Wednesday, 26 November.

The cleric, who served as the spiritual leader of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero, was abducted on 28 October 2025 by armed criminals who later released proof-of-life photographs showing him, his wife and several other captives in deplorable condition.

…full of life

The abduction occurred in a neighbourhood already grappling with persistent insecurity and repeated attacks.

According to family members and community sources, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N600 million — an impossible sum for the affected families and the wider community.

The circulated proof-of-life photographs painted a harrowing picture: the captives appeared visibly starved, weakened and chained, exposing the cruel conditions under which they were being held.
